Note: This is an old post, I recently noticed that I had a blog page elsewhere and decided to transfer the contents here. This could be a bit outdated too.. read at your own risk
We all have random posts on our wall, mostly because they are “liked” by our friends. Most of them are colourful random /inspirational/funny quotes or fake photos and stories. And there are some who trick us into typing “1” to see the “miracle on the photo or to chant some religious prayers to a picture of disabled person. The list is long but the objective remains the same- to urge/trick you into “liking”. “sharing” or “commenting” their posts..
We all have friends who likes shares and comments to the posts and you are sitting there screaming inside,
No, no miracle will happen in the picture if you type 1(or any number) in the comment box. No, Facebook will not donate anything whoever shares or likes a picture of a poorly kid. And No, your starsign doesn’t mean anything to Facebook. It might sound like an attention seeking individual or company trying to harvest "like"s. And the truth is not too far...!!
So, what happens when you like a status or a post?
If you like /comment and of course, share a post it becomes visible on your friend’s wall and if they do the same, it will be visible to their friend’s wall and so on. And here’s whyIf a page gets certain number of “likes”, the owner of the post can start pushing their own ads, which becomes visible to everyone who liked/commented or shared the post. And of course, they will make money whenever you click on their ads and make a purchase. Nothing wrong with that, right? Wrong, the page owner of your “liked” page, can also post links to malware, spyware and even lure you towards a phishing site to steal your identity. Next time, please think twice before liking a page, this could save you and your friends some money (and dignity and friendship) Read more here and here Comments are closed.
